02 CHARACTER CLASSES
ALLOW THE HAT TO SIT ON YOUR HEAD, GOOD SIR
GRYFFINDOR | Founded by Godric Gryffindor, the Gryffindor house is embodied by the colors of scarlet and gold, as well as the animal of the lion; the house corresponds to the element of fire, a possible reason behind its colors. The house emphasizes the traits of courage, as well as ‘daring, nerve, and chivalry,’ often embodied in some form in all of its students. The signature persona of the average Gryffindor seems to be one of daring bravery, though in negative terms, it can also be seen as recklessness. In addition, those sorted into the Gryffindor house have often been identified by their sense of fierce loyalty to their friends, as well as honesty and virtue.
HUFFLEPUFF | Hufflepuff, founded by the medieval witch Helga Hufflepuff, is symbolized by the colors of yellow and black, and the animal badger; it roughly corresponds with the element of earth. Students categorized into this house are known to be hard-working, friendly, loyal, honest and impartial. Due to such values, Hufflepuff members are often not as competitive as the other houses, and tend to be more modest about their accomplishments. The house emphasizes loyalty, warmness and openness to one’s friends above all else, and has produced the fewest number of dark wizards than any other house at Hogwarts, often with a cheery and friendly demeanor.
RAVENCLAW | Founded by Rowena Ravenclaw, the Ravenclaw House is symbolized by the colors of blue and bronze, with the eagle as its animal, corresponding roughly with the element of air. The Ravenclaw house is noted for its sharp wit, learning, and wisdom embodied in each of its members, and education and intellect is prized above all else. Many Ravenclaw students, as such, tend to be academically motivated and driven students. Students have noted that Ravenclaw students are so competitive in the field of academic success, that they are known to backstab one another in order to gain top marks, and are one of the proudest houses of their success. In any other field, Ravenclaw is not so competitive towards the other houses.
SLYTHERIN | Produced by Salazar Slytherin, the Slytherin house is embodied by the colors green and silver, and is represented by the snake and the element of water. Carrying on the purist ideals of its original founder, the Slytherin house is composed mostly of pure-blood students, and the house is home to students who exhibit traits such as cunning, resourcefulness and ambition. The Slytherin House tends to have a rather negative reputation, claiming most of the Dark Wizards in history, including the previous Dark Lord. Slytherins tend to be ambitious, shrewd, cunning, strong leaders, and achievement-oriented; so competitive are they, that many often distrust their own housemates, who will easily push them down at any sign of weakness. Slytherins also have highly developed senses of self-preservation, tending to hesitate before acting, so as to weigh all possible outcomes before deciding exactly what should be done.
BEAUXBATONS | Beauxbatons Academy of Magic is an all-girls wizarding school, and transferee students from this academy are thought to uphold gentle, lady-like mannerisms, having been taught in a gentle, elegant atmosphere at Beauxbatons. Often prizing such qualities as femininity and grace, students from Beauxbatons practice self-control at all times, choosing to act with dignity and poise above all. Its students wear the Beauxbatons uniform, a satin blue dress with a small, short cloak rippling at their shoulders and a blue felt hat; or, if they choose to, they may wear a Hogwarts uniform with a satin blue tie.
DURMSTRANG | Durmstrang Institute is an all-boys wizarding school, which does not accept muggle-born students (though this purist ideal does not apply to all of the attending students.) Contrary to Beauxbatons, Durmstrang prizes strength, resilience and discipline, and the school is notorious for its acceptance of the dark arts, whose students are taught in both light and dark magic classes. Drumstrang students wear the Durmstrang uniform, consisting of blood red robes, dark cloaks, and fur hats and accessories; or, if they choose to, they may wear a Hogwarts uniform with a deep red tie.
FACULTY | All Hogwarts staff and faculty are of the highest degree of intelligence and knowledge in their respective fields, employed after an extensive screening process. They are each capable witches and wizards, and in times of crisis, are fully trained and able to protect their students at all costs; many are Hogwarts graduates themselves.
CIVILIANS | Civilians are those not enrolled in a magic school, but have either dropped out or graduated from a magical institute, and are thus, wizards and witches. They are employed in a plethora of jobs, from shopkeepers, aurors, Ministry officials, etcetera.
